More Than Just Boots: 1,000 Pairs of Socks Donated to LINK of Hampton Roads

Our Commitment to Community in Action

Here at Red Wing Richmond, our roots in this community run four generations deep. We’ve always believed that our responsibility extends beyond the walls of our stores on Brook Road, in Chester, and here in Midlothian. It’s about supporting the people who make our community strong.

That’s why we’re so proud to share some wonderful news from our growing family. As you may know, our owner, Bill Gardner, recently extended our family’s commitment to quality and service to the Hampton Roads area with the new ownership of Red Wing Hampton. And right away, that team put our values into action.

We’re thrilled to announce that our sister store, Red Wing Hampton, recently donated over 1,000 pairs of socks to LINK of Hampton Roads, an incredible local nonprofit dedicated to supporting veterans and community members in need.

A Simple Way to Give Back

The initiative was simple but powerful: for every pair of Red Wing boots sold at the Hampton store, the team set aside a new pair of socks for donation. For those who work on their feet, especially those facing hardship, a clean, dry, quality pair of socks is not a small thing—it’s a necessity for comfort and health.

As Bill explained, “My team and my family are proud to bring our generations of experience with work boots and specifically Red Wing in Richmond and Charlottesville here to the Hampton Roads community. Giving to local veterans in need is something we are passionate about.”

This effort perfectly captures our philosophy: when customers invest in quality footwear for themselves, it allows us to invest right back into the community.

A Partnership to Support Our Veterans

The recipient of this donation, The LINK of Hampton Roads, does vital work in the community. Since 1990, they have been on the front lines, providing services and outreach to help homeless individuals and families, including many veterans, break the cycle of poverty.

On Wednesday, September 22nd, Bill Gardner and the Red Wing team met with the staff at The LINK to officially hand over the donation. They were joined by Hampton Councilmen Robert “Rob” Coleman and Cleon Long, who came to show their support for this fantastic community partnership. It was a powerful moment, bringing together local business and civic leaders to support a cause that matters to all of us.

A Commitment That Starts at Home

This initiative in Hampton is a perfect example of the values that guide everything we do, right here in Richmond and across all our stores. When you choose to shop with us, you’re not just buying the best work boots available; you’re supporting a local, family-run business that is deeply committed to giving back.

Your continued loyalty allows our family of stores to grow and, more importantly, to undertake meaningful projects like this one. So, from all of us here at Red Wing Richmond, thank you for being a part of our community and for helping us make a difference, one pair of boots—and socks—at a time.
